Basic guppy care
A beginner-friendly care page covering water parameters, tank size, food, water changes, filtration, stress signs, and care after shipping.
Great for customers and SEO.
| Parameter | Recommended range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | 72–80°F / 22–27°C | Keep stable. Avoid sudden changes. |
| pH | ~6.8–7.8 | Stability matters more than chasing a perfect number. |
| Ammonia | 0 ppm | Any ammonia is dangerous. |
| Nitrite | 0 ppm | Nitrite should be zero in a cycled tank. |
| Nitrate | < 20 ppm | Water changes keep nitrate low. |
A 10-gallon tank is the minimum recommended. Larger tanks are easier to maintain stable water quality.
Feed quality flake food, micro pellets, or live foods. Small portions 1–2 times daily is ideal.
Weekly water changes of 20–30% help maintain stable parameters and reduce nitrate levels.
Sponge filters, hang-on-back filters, or internal canisters all work well. Avoid strong current.
Clamped fins, heavy breathing, hiding, pale color, or not eating may indicate stress or illness.
After shipping, follow the acclimation guide, keep lights low, and monitor for signs of stress.
