A LITTLE PREPARATION GOES A LONG WAY

The details behind your next guppies.

About this listing

Dark Dumbo Dragon Breeder Trio combines a dark-toned dragon guppy with dumbo pectoral fins. Dragon guppies carry heavy metallic colour on the head and body; in the dark form it reads as near-black with flashes of colour, and the big dumbo pectorals add constant movement.

Dark Dumbo Dragon Breeder Trio key traits

Pattern / colour: dragon-type colour over head and body
Tail and fins: enlarged dumbo pectorals
Parameters: 22 to 28°C, pH 7.0 to 8.0 with stable hardness
Minimum tank: 40 L+ for a pair or trio
Food: varied flake and pellet with live or frozen foods
Unit: breeder trio

Acclimation and quarantine

Match temperature first by floating the bag, then drip or cup in tank water slowly so pH and hardness change gradually. Give them a dark, quiet first night and feed lightly from the second day. If you already keep guppies, isolate newcomers for two weeks so any problem shows up before it reaches your main tank. Take photos of the unopened bags on delivery; it makes any arrival claim simple.

Setting up for this strain

Guppies are hardy, but they do best in a cycled tank with steady temperature and weekly partial water changes. The complete guppy care guide walks through cycling, feeding and water changes step by step. A cycled, filtered tank with weekly water changes of around a quarter keeps guppies healthy and colourful. Those big pectoral fins make dumbos slightly slower swimmers, so keep the current gentle and avoid fin-nipping companions.

Line and breeding tips

The dumbo fin is usually recessive: two dumbos give dumbo fry, while a cross to normal fins gives carriers with standard pectorals. Dragon colour keeps developing as males mature, so judge breeders at full size and keep the line separate from other strains. One male with two females is the classic starter ratio, giving steady broods without wearing out a single female. More detail in pair vs trio.

Best for

For keepers who want a moody, dark-coloured dumbo line, starting with one male and two females. Compare it with related varieties in the dumbo guppy guide.

Shipping and arrival
