Live fish shipping rules

Shipping Policy

HiGuppy ships live guppies across the United States with clear processing times, weather review, and delivery expectations โ€” because shipping live fish is different from shipping dry goods.

Quality live fish starts with honest policies and careful packing.

Live fish packing

Double-bagged with oxygen and insulated boxes.

Weather review

We delay shipments when transit is unsafe.

Tracking provided

Monitor delivery day and be home for arrival.

Health check first

Fish are inspected again before they ship.

Where we ship

Live guppy shipping across the United States

HiGuppy ships live guppies to hobbyists and breeders who understand that shipping live fish is different from shipping dry goods. We pack carefully, choose appropriate service levels, and communicate honestly when weather makes transit risky.

We currently ship to: TODO: states served. If your state is not listed or you are unsure about local restrictions, contact us before ordering. Some areas have extreme heat or cold that may require a weather hold.

Important: Live fish cannot sit on a porch or in a mailbox. Plan to be available on delivery day โ€” see our Order Tracking page for delivery-day tips.

Processing time

Orders are typically prepared within TODO: processing time business days after payment clears. Live fish are not pulled from tanks until we are ready to pack.

Ship days

We ship live guppies on TODO: shipping days to reduce weekend warehouse delays. Orders placed after our cutoff may ship the following ship day.

Carrier

Shipments go out via TODO: carrier. Service level depends on distance, weather, and order size. Tracking is emailed when the label is created or when the carrier scans the package.

How it works

From checkout to your door

Every live fish order follows the same general flow. Timing can shift when weather is unsafe or when we hold back a fish that fails the final packing check.

Order confirmed

Your order is confirmed after successful payment. Failed payments do not reserve live inventory โ€” see our Payment Policy.

Weather & route review

We review forecast temperatures at origin, destination, and along common transit routes. Extreme heat or cold may delay shipment by one or more days without cancelling your order.

Fish selected & packed

Guppies receive a final health check, are bagged with clean shipping water and oxygen, and are placed in insulated packaging. Details are on our Packing Process page.

Shipped with tracking

You receive tracking when available. Watch delivery day closely, open the box promptly, and follow our Acclimation Guide.

Shipping options

Service levels & seasonal packing

The right shipping method depends on distance, time of year, and how quickly fish need to reach you. We choose methods that balance cost with live arrival safety.

Service type Typical use What to expect
Standard / ground Moderate distances, mild weather Economical option when transit time is reasonable and temperatures are safe.
Expedited / overnight Long distances, tight windows, heat/cold risk Faster transit reduces time in the box. May be required during extreme seasons.
Heat pack Winter or cold-route shipments Helps maintain bag temperature during short cold exposure. Not a substitute for safe weather.
Cold pack / insulation Summer or hot-route shipments Extra insulation and cooling aids when forecast highs are risky for live fish.
Weather holds: We may delay shipping without cancelling your order when forecast temperatures at origin or destination are unsafe. Weather delays are not automatic refunds โ€” contact us if you need to discuss rescheduling. See Cancellation Policy.

Your responsibilities

What buyers need to do on delivery day

Healthy arrival is a shared effort. We control packing and fish selection; you control being available, acclimating properly, and having a cycled tank ready.

  • Provide an accurate shipping address and phone number for carrier updates.
  • Be available on delivery day โ€” do not allow live fish to sit outside.
  • Have a cycled quarantine or display tank ready before fish arrive.
  • Open the package immediately and inspect fish while still in the bag.
  • Prepare a cycled tank before fish arrive โ€” see our Guppy Care Guide for water parameters.
  • Follow our Acclimation Guide โ€” never pour bag water into your tank.
  • Report DOA issues within the claim window on our DOA Policy page.

Common questions

Shipping FAQ

How long can guppies stay in the shipping bag?

Healthy guppies are packed for typical transit times, not indefinite storage. Open the box as soon as it arrives and begin acclimation. Extended carrier delays increase stress โ€” contact us if tracking shows a problem before delivery.

Do you ship in winter or summer?

Yes, when weather along the route is acceptable. We use heat packs, cold packs, and extra insulation seasonally. We will delay rather than ship into forecast extremes when possible.

Can I request a specific ship date?

Contact us before or immediately after ordering. We will try to accommodate requests when weather and inventory allow, but live fish scheduling depends on fish readiness and safe transit windows.

What if my package is delayed?

Monitor tracking and contact the carrier if needed. If fish arrive in poor condition due to transit issues, document immediately and review our DOA Policy. Carrier delays outside our control may affect claim eligibility.

Is local pickup available instead of shipping?

Appointment-based pickup may be available in some areas. See our Local Pickup page for details.

After your fish arrive

Follow the acclimation guide before adding guppies to your tank.
